Q. How am I charged for calls?

The minimum charge on all connected calls is the quoted one minute rate. Calls over one minute are charged on a per second basis until the end of the call. Calls to Vodafone and 029 mobiles are charged minute by minute. All call costs are exclusive of GST.

Q. Am I charged for calls that aren’t connected?

No, you are only charged if your call is connected (i.e. you get through to a person, answer machine)

Q. Can I see how much my monthly bill is at any one time?

When you connect to our broadband and phone services, Airnet staff will provide you with a Customer ID and temporary password that will allow you access to an online account facility called MY AIRNET (found on the Airnet website). You can log into this account at any time to view your Internet usage and calling data.

Call data is updated on your online account within minutes of completing your call.

Q. I only got one page of my bill?

Instead of being sent all the detail about your calling, Airnet will only send you a summarised bill for all your communication services.

For detail on your specific calling, you can simply log in to MY AIRNET and view the calling data - anytime.

Calling

Q. Can I call 111 Emergency services?

Yes. (Note that your phone number will always be presented to Emergency Services when you call them).

Q. What is a local calling area?

A local calling area is an area where national toll charges are not applicable. For instance calls within Napier and Hastings incur local calling charges but not Napier to Waipukurau. Refer to your White Pages Directory for local calling areas.

Phone Numbers

Q. Can I bring my phone number with me when I join AIRNET?

Yes. Following recent industry changes in number portability, it is now possible to keep your existing phone number. However, as a general rule, if you are moving outside a local calling area, you may need to get a new Airnet phone number. Contact us for details.

For new phone line connections, Airnet can provide you a new phone number.

Q. Can Airnet provide me with 0800 numbers?

Yes, we can provide 0800 and 0508 numbers - contact us for information.

The basics

Q. I am a current Airnet broadband customer – what do I need to do to get phone services installed?

Simply call our sales team who will progress a new contract and the service installation for you.  An Airnet technician will need to install some additional equipment to your radio unit to activate the phone service.

Q. What does a standard installation include?

Airnet's standard installation of broadband and phone lines is defined below and generally includes everything a customer needs to migrate to Airnet, however, there are instances when additional work is required and additional costs for installation are incurred. Please read carefully.

1. Where a customer moves their phone services to Airnet from another Telco provider, a standard install covers all labour and equipment required to cut over from the previous provider. In this situation Airnet will supply phone lines to the existing phone locations (or phone jacks) using the existing communications wire in the building. Any additional cabling required to connect a dedicated alarm panel, EFTPOS lines and to interface with any building demarcation points is provided by Airnet under the standard installation.
  • All other requirements are chargeable based on our standard labour charge (of $65 per hour) plus any any materials. This would include the movement of phone connections from the existing location or another customer request.
2. Where a customer has had no existing Telecommunications wiring in their premises (for instance the installation of Airnet phone lines is in a new office building), a standard installation consists only of the cabling from Airnet's equipment to a central demarcation point, where the phone or phone system will be connected.
  • All other requirements including any additional cabling to any external jacks other than to Airnet equipment is chargeable based on our standard labour charge (of $65 per hour) plus any any materials.
An Airnet installer will always advise the customer before an installation takes place if there are going to be additional installation costs.

See our Service Charges for non standard installation charges

Q. Are there any additional service charges?

Many of Airnet's extra services to our customers are included in the plans they have with us, however, there are instances where Airnet will charge. See our list of Service Charges here.

Q. How do I get connected to Airnet?

Airnet will provide everything you need to get connected. First check if you are in our coverage area and then contact us on 0508 AIRNET to progress the installation of the service. Once completed, we’ll confirm your installation to connect your Airnet phone and broadband service.

Q. How does your phone service work?

Essentially it is no different to the traditional copper wire service that you have used in the past, it is just delivered an alternative way via our wireless network infrastructure.

A key advantage of Airnet’s wireless technology is that we are able to provide high speed connections to enable both broadband Internet access and phone services.

Q. How is your phone service different to VOIP and Skype?

VOIP is Voice over Internet Protocol and is a term used for various technologies. VOIP technology uses your Internet connection instead of a phone line to make and take calls. One example of a VOIP service downloadable on the Internet is Skype – it allows you to make and take online calls to other Skype members, anywhere in the world. You can still use Skype via your internet connection.

Airnet’s service is different to VOIP essentially because of its delivery. It is not a public internet VOIP service – merely an alternative to traditional phone lines delivered through our private network.

Q. Will my phone line work when the power goes off?

As with most electronic devices, like cordless phones, Airnet phone (and broadband) equipment requires electricity to operate. When you have Airnet phone services installed we will include a UPS device that will continue a power supply to your primary Airnet equipment. This includes analog phone lines and your antenna but not IP phones.

A UPS will provide power for several hours until the electricity service is restored. This device will also protect you from potentially harmful power fluctuations.

Q. Can I get multiple phone lines?

Yes, as many as you require.

Q. What kind of equipment do I need?

Airnet will supply you with all the necessary equipment to establish your phone and broadband service. The only thing we will not supply is the actual phone, as you will be able to use your existing appliance. If you do need phone equipment we can supply you with this at competitive price.

Q. Can I use my existing phone?

Yes, by all means. You can use your existing telephone to make calls. Similarly, the people you call only need standard phones.

Q. What about calling services like voice mail – are these services available?

Airnet’s Call Services provide you additional functionality to your phone lines such as Voicemail and Call Waiting which are simple and easy to use. These are priced from $2.95 + GST per month.

Q. Can I use my fax with Airnet?

Yes, either you can use our FaxSmart service or you can have a dedicated fax line with a separate number. These services are available on all lines other than your primary line. Note: you will need a Faxability capable fax for Airnet’s Smartfax service.

Q. Can I use EFTPOS over my Airnet phone line?

Yes, providing it is used on any other line but your primary line.

Q. Can I use the phone while I’m on the Internet?

Yes. That’s the benefit of broadband. You can be on the phone and use the Internet at the same time.

Q. Does my computer need to be turned on for the phone to work?

No, but you must keep your broadband internet connection active. Broadband is installed so that it stays on all the time.
