CASE STUDY - Taradale High School

AIRNET VPBX and Tools for Schools

Taradale High School is literally buzzing over their new state of the art phone system recently established by local phone lines and Internet provider Airnet.

Taradale High had used Airnet’s Tools for School’s broadband services for many years but the phone system they had was becoming unreliable and they did not have enough phone lines to cope with the school’s growing demands.

Starting with a comprehensive review of the school’s communication services, Airnet were able to customise a new phone system specifically to the needs of the school.

“The school had specific requirements in the change over from their old phone system. With help from an Airnet Project Manager, we were quickly able to establish these requirements and fulfill them with a new PBX system, our own Virtual PBX service” says Airnet Sales Manager, Ben Deller.

One of the great benefits of the vPBX system for Taradale High is that for approximately the same cost of receiving 13 phone lines on their original system, the school now receives over 50 lines on the Airnet system. Also included in the cost of each line is a multi-functional, yet simple to use digital handset.

As a school, Taradale High also receives the benefits of the Airnet Tools for Schools package, including content filtered broadband, video conferencing, website hosting and domain registration.

Taradale High’s Principal Stephen Hensman says, “We are delighted with the new system – it makes our communications a lot more effective - we can focus on teaching and running the school without the cost or complexity of trying to understand our telecommunications”.

Like Airnet’s standard phone services, the vPBX is packed with great features. For instance free calls between extensions, toll bars and voice mail messages that are also sent to email as an attachment. A big feature for the school staff is free direct dial numbers, where staff can be called directly instead of via the main school phone number and welcome IVR message.

Mr Hensman says “An unanticipated advantage of the system is that having calls routed elsewhere has freed up time for our principal telephonist, who now has more time for other jobs”.

“The new phone system has some great easy to use features and at the same time provides more cost controls for us by tracking each teacher or departments calling costs via Airnet’s PIN code service. The phones are easy to use and the system meets our requirements well. The best part is that we never miss a call” continued Mr Hensman.

Airnet’s vPBX service replaces the need for a premise based PBX system and complex dedicated cabling. Airnet hosts and manages the service remotely so onsite visits to make checks and maintenance are not required.  If the school does require assistance for any reason, Airnet has local staff available to assist.

A benefit of the vPBX system is that there are no large upfront charges. The monthly price includes the handset, line, system upgrades and maintenance. This also means the equipment will not become obsolete in only a matter of years like other premise based systems.

Before the system was implemented, the key users at the school were also provided training so the impact of changing over to the new phone system was reduced.

Airnet’s vPBX systems are popping up in many local schools and businesses throughout Hawke’s Bay. The systems are ideal for businesses or schools that are due to update their PBX / PABX system or are at a stage where a PBX system is required to help manage calling activity.
